HISTORY OF THE
SANCTUARY OF TINDARI
The city was founded by Dionysius of Syracuse in 396
BC as a colony of Syracuse mercenaries who had
participated in the war against Carthage , in the
territory of the Sicilian city of Abacaenum (
Tripura ) , and took the name of Tyndaris , in honor
of Tyndareus , king of Sparta and husband of Leda ,
foster father of Helen and Castor and Pollux.
During the First Punic War , under the control of
Hiero II of Syracuse , was the Carthaginian naval
base , and in its waters was fought in 257 BC the
battle of Tindarys , in which the Roman fleet , led
by the Consul Aulus Atilio Calatino , routed the
Carthaginian .
With Syracuse and later passed under Roman was the
naval base of Sextus Pompey . Taken by Augustus in
36 BC , he deduced that the Roman colony of Augusta
Tyndaritanorum Cologne , one of the five of Sicily,
Cicero quoted as noble civitas .
In the first century A.D. suffered the consequences
of a major landslide , while in the fourth century
was subject to two destructive earthquakes
Episcopalian , was conquered by the Byzantines in
535 and fell in 836, in the hands of the Arabs, from
whom he had destroyed.
There was the shrine of the Black Madonna of
Tindarys , progressively larger , which houses a
Mary and Child carved in wood , which is considered
a bearer of grace and miraculous.
HISTORY OF THE
GREEK THEATRE TINDARI
The theater of Tindari was built in Greek forms at
the end of the fourth century BC and later rebuilt
in Roman times, with a new decoration for home and
adaptation to the games of the amphitheater.
Long been abandoned and only known for the
illustrations of the nineteenth century, was leaning
against the natural conformation of the hollow hill,
which were carved the tiers of seats (0.40 m high
and 0.70 m deep) of the auditorium , which was to
reach a capacity of about 3000 seats. In Roman times
there was added a porch brickwork and the
reconstruction of the scene, of which only the
foundations and arch was restored in 1939. The
orchestra was transformed into an arena, with a wall
surrounding the auditorium and the discontinuation
of the four lowest steps
Since 1956 it houses an arts festival that ranks
among the manifestations dance, music, and of course
the theater.
Since 2001 it houses, together with Taormina Theatre
Festival of the Two Seas

WHAT WE CAN SEE ON MILAZZO
Milazzo is the third-largest city in the province of
Messina and is one of the most important cities of
Sicily. The city proper has a population of over
32,000 inhabitants, and is the point of reference of
a vaste territory,
From Villafranca Tirrena to Patti.
Originally was a Greek city, and from 36 B.C.
recognized as civitas Romana, the city was at the
center of the story during the First Punic War (260
BC), and in July 1860 with the arrival of the Red
Shirts in the great Battle of Milazzo. There are
numerous testimonies and symbols of the ancient
history of the city.
The aim is to include the castle, the walled city
and the ancient village among the UNESCO sites and
build the Marine Reserve of the promontory of the
Cape of Milazzo travel Destinations and excellent
starting point for the Aeolian Islands, the Nebrodi
Park and Tindari. The city's economy, in addition to
tourism, it is quite varied: from agriculture (and

WHAT WE CAN SEE IN TAORMINA
Life in the city of Taormina takes place in the
Corso Umberto, the main street for shopping. The
many shops are open during the summer from 9 in the
morning until late at night.
In the many narrow streets that flow into the Corso
Umberto find delicious restaurants and many pubs.
In the middle of the Umberto street, is the Piazza
IV Aprile with the viewpoint of Taormina. From the
Piazza IV Aprile you can enjoy a breathtaking view
from the bay of Giardini Naxos and the Etna volcano.
On a clear day you can see the coast of Calabria.
Here stands the medieval clock tower. The Piazza IV
Aprile is surrounded by the most famous bar in
Taormina, where the evening performing groups of
Sicilian folk music. In the square, painters,
caricaturists and artists of all kinds carry out
their activities. A visit to the the Communal Villa
must not be missed during your holiday in Taormina.
Located between the Umberto street and the Greek
Theatre, the Villa Comunale will enchant you with
its green and its exotic plants. The Public Gardens
offer timetable warmer summer months a bit of shade,
here you can stop the "strenuous" walk to Taormina
to enjoy a little break.
But the most important and spectacular monument in
Taormina and perhaps in all Sicily is the
Greek-Roman Theatre. Created by the Greeks (third
century BC.), It was rebuilt and expanded in Roman
times.

in Cefalu where the participants assisted by a
guide, will visit the city.
We start the tour of Cefalu from Piazza Garibaldi,
the site of the land door, on the right is the
elegant eighteenth-century façade of the Church of
St. Maria della Catena, from here begins the Ruggero
street with the Osterio Magno, one of the few
remains of medieval Cefalu. Going up we will take
you to Piazza Duomo. The superb cathedral is the
most important monument of Cefalu. Continuing to the
right of the Municipal Palace, we will find the
Mandralisca street, where is the church of
Immacolatella and Cefalu Cathedral . Returning to
Ruggero street, it comes down to make a pleasant
walk away Candeloro street that lets you discover
unusual sights of the city. Beyond the Giudecca door,
you arrive at the marina Presidiana and the
promontory of Kalura. From Rome street, we will find
the square F. Crispi , a short ladder adjacent to
the two churches of St. John and dell'Itria connects
the floor of the square to the plane of Bastion
Marchiafava forming a beautiful terrace overlooking
the sea. The route continues to the picturesque
streets to meet first the medieval wash-house and
later the door of the sea which marks the beginning
of the splendid Seafront of Cefalù.

ARRIVAL ON THE PORT OF MILAZZO
8:30am The group
of participants will be welcomed at the port of
Milazzo by our staff. informative material on the
islands will be distribuited to all guests. The
CAPTAIN of the MOTORBAOT will welcome you and
provide further information on the trip to the
Aeolian archipelago, declared World Heritage Site by
UNESCO.
9:00am Departure for Lipari Marina Corta.
ARRIVAL AT THE
PORT OF LIPARI
10:00am (about) arrival at the port of Lipari
Marina Corta. Stop and visit of the island. The
island of Lipari is among the largest of the seven
islands of the Aeolian archipelago.
WHAT YOU CAN SEE IN LIPARI:
CATHEDRAL OF ST. BARTHOLOMEW
The Cathedral, dedicated to St. Bartholomew, was
built by Count Ruggero who donated it to the monk
Ambrogio, appointed first abbot of all the Aeolian
Islands. This donation was confirmed by Ruggero II
in 1134.
ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK
The Archaeological Park Quarter Diana Lipari extends
into the vast flat area bounded to the east of the
historic center of the modern city to the west of
the slope opposite, south of the laying of the
Walloon and North Wallon S. Lucia. In the area of
the Park is the Vescovile Building, bounded on the
South Street Diana, (now G. Marconi), and other
small adjacent archaeological areas.
The Archaeological Park of Diana Area was
established in 1971 as a result of carried out by
Luigi Bernabò Brea and Madeleine Cavalier
archaeological excavations they highlighted the
walls urbiche Greek age of IV century BC. The park
is Municipality of Lipari idea, and the aim was to
create a green area in the heart of the city.
HISTORICAL CENTER AND VITTORIO EMANUELE STREET
The boulevard Vittorio Emanuele II, the main road
from the historic center of Lipari. In this area you
can admire lots of shops and the narrow streets of
the island.
BUS TOUR OF
LIPARI (optional surcharges apply):
Onboard a bus and assisted by a guide, partecipants
will visit the island of Lipari (1h). The tour will
include a first stop at the Belvedere of Quattrocchi
for the panoramic view of the island of Vulcano and
the Faraglioni of Lipari. Then, we will reach Piano
Conte and Quattropani. Stop at the Legno Nero
viewpoint to admire the islands of Salina, Panarea,
Stromboli, Filicudi and Alicudi. Our last stop will
be at Acquacalda and the Pumice Quarries. Moving
past the famous Beach of Canneto, the tour will end
near the Cathedral of St. Bartholomew, where the
group of participants, accompanied by a tour guide
***, will visit the Aeolian Museum, one of the most
renowned in Europe for underwater archeology,
established in 1954 by Luigi Bernabo Brea and
Madeleine Cavalier.
DEPARTURE FROM LIPARI TO VULCANO
1:00pm we leave Lipari for Vulcano island. From the
boat we will admire the Faraglioni, the coast and
the most beautiful bays of the island.
ARRIVAL AT THE
PORT OF VULCANO
1.30pm arrival and stopover on the island of Vulcano
useful to allow lunch (first plate of pasta, main
dish of chicken with potatoes, mineral water,
dessert) in a local restaurant.
WHAT WE CAN
SEE IN THE ISLAND OF VULCANO:
THE SULPHUREOUS MUD-BATHS
They are one of the peculiarities of Vulcano. From
the port on the right, the shelter of a rock with
incredible colors, shades ranging from yellow to red,
a natural basin sulphurous mud known for their
therapeutic properties, you can enter the pond,
where the water is enriched and intensely
mineralized by volcanic bellows and where sulphurous
fumes out. mud is a panacea to cure arthritis,
airway diseases and skin diseases.
CLIMBING THE CRATER OF VULCANO
The excursion to the crater is an unforgettable walk.
It is a wonderful feeling that reveals an
inconceivable world.
BLACK BEACHES
Is the most famous beach of the island and is
located in the western part of the natural. A fine
black sand, so brilliant, of volcanic origin.

04:00 pm : Departure from Vulcano for the visit from
the sea the Cave of Angels, the Rock of the Mummy
and other places only visible from the boat.
